Warmer weather and longer day have finally returned. I’ve been raring to get back to the garden. When the weather cooperates, it’s my go-to getaway.
Gardening is a favorite pastime. Plus, it’s a great way to exercise while actually accomplishing something. I’d rather be out in the sun getting my hands dirty than hitting the gym.
Our backyard deck is our favorite place for chillaxin‘, a retreat from the busyness of life, a slice of serenity at home, a relaxation paradise. Are you feeling my vibe?
Our family is delighted to look out on the creek. We enjoy the kayakers, geese and ducks while we eat or surf wifi.
We’ve made the most of it. That’s what the gardening is partly about. It takes work, but beautifies our space.
Many take their outdoor spaces for granted. They’re left underdeveloped.
Before we had our kids we lived in a condo. It had a small, private backyard patio with chairs and a table, but we never made anything of it — and we so could have! So much unrealized potential. As a result, we barely ever went there.
Now that we so frequently enjoy the outdoors, I can’t imagine not creating a space inviting enough to attract me to it. It takes time and energy to create an outdoor oasis — and a green thumb helps — but I can’t imagine many things that offer better returns, if you, like me, love beauty and solitude.
I’m excited to share my first round-up covering projects from a few creative DIY bloggers. They graciously let me use their photos.
Stenciled Concrete Patio
Do you have boring concrete patio? This budget-friendly DIY is a perfect way to jazz up your patio. I love how it looks like moroccan tiles. All you need is a stencil, paint and a lot of patience! Check out these before and after photos below.
Isn’t that amazing? The geometric design adds so much interest to the space. Check out plaidandpaleo for the tutorial.
Here’s another. If you like to paint, this project is for you!
I love how it turned out. I also love the way she styled the space. The black and white combination is timeless and sophisticated. Check out DizzyDuckDesigns for the tutorial.
Pea Gravel Patio
I really love the modern look of square concrete pavers. I’d like to do something like this in our backyard one day. This is something anybody can do and doing it yourself will save you a lot of money!
Check out the tutorial from loveandrenovations.
DIY Pergola
Chip and Jo love pergolas, as do I. They adds architectural interest and shade your outdoor space. This DIY pergola can transform your backyard into an outdoor oasis.
What a difference! And the shade is a much welcome bonus. Check out frugaladventures for the tutorial.
As you can see, nothing comes easy. It takes work to improve and maintain a space, but consider the alternative. You’ll miss years enjoying the fruits of whatever great space you might have, had you started today.
Which of these projects do you like the best? Let me know in the comments below.
