Virginia is one of our favorite vacation spots. We found and fell in love with an affordable, private, remote beach house—and we’ve been returning there ever since!
We had previously visited Ocean City (both NJ and MD) but that was before we discovered our hideaway. I like the boardwalk, but finding a little patch of sand on a crowded, public beach?! No thanks. We vowed never to return to commercial beaches!
The last time we went to Ocean City we made a memory. As soon as we walked onto the beach we were swarmed by biting flies. They bearded your lower leg. We retreated never having put our towels down!
Even though we love the beach, there’s no place like home. It’s one thing to get away from the routine for a break, but that routine is the stuff of life—watering my plants, talking walks, watching a show before bedtime.
Hubby asked me if I’d trade in our home for the beach house, even up. And I was surprised. My answer was no. His too. We love our home, its location, its views and our family and friends. We’re close to everything and everyone. The beach house is in—as hubby likes to say—the boonies.
We live on our back porch. We love the view.
We’re blessed with great neighbors. I’m glad that our neighbors’ homes are unfenced. Nothing ruins a wide-open view like a fence.
I only recently bought a new outdoor rug. I’d been looking for a deal and found this one on Home Depot. The quality’s just okay. Y’know, one of those things you wished you’d bought in the store instead of online.
I added some pillows, lamps and throw blankets. Feelin’ the cozy vibe? It gets chilly in the evenings so coverage is a must.
Our cushions were deteriorating so I got new ones. I owned them for just 2 days. There’s a story.
I got this sturdy, composite dining set on Facebook Marketplace for a steal—just $30.
The linen seat cushions are from Target.
I planted a cutting garden this year. These peonies are from it. I love fresh flowers. I just don’t want to pay for them.
The melamine plates are from Dollar Tree. I got the table napkins and rings on clearance from Hobby Lobby.
Greenery is a must. No outdoor space is complete without it. I hope this post is a muse for your own outdoor space. Enjoy your space to the fullest.
Have a great summer, everyone!
