The Search for a Solid Wood Dining Table
For years, I had been searching for a new dining table. Our old one, made of MDF, was covered in scratches and white marks from daily use—thanks to my kids’ DIY projects. My husband and I wanted something durable: a solid wood table with a simple, extendable design.
I scoured Facebook Marketplace, Amazon, Wayfair, HomeGoods, and other furniture stores. But most tables I found were either MDF or way out of our budget. West Elm and Pottery Barn had beautiful options, but they were just too pricey.
Then, I spotted a stunning wood table on Facebook Marketplace and showed it to my husband. The seller, who lived just 30 minutes away, provided the dimensions—and it matched our old table perfectly!
An Unexpected Surprise
Excited, my husband and I went to see the table. It had some minor scratches, but nothing too noticeable. Since we didn’t own a truck, I asked my brother-in-law for help with transport.
The seller was flying to India the next day and needed the table gone. He originally listed it for $100, but then he surprised us—he gave it to us for FREE! I couldn’t believe it. A solid wood dining table, at no cost? It was a dream come true!
Initially, I planned to restain it, but my husband suggested leaving it as-is for now. With my busy full-time job, I figured I could always do it later.

Finding the Perfect Dining Chairs
For my birthday last year, I told my husband I wanted new dining chairs to complement our table. While our existing chairs were nice, their coastal style didn’t quite fit the modern organic aesthetic I envisioned.

Mid-Century Modern Chairs: Sleek & Unique
While I love the cool, unique look of our mid-century modern chairs, they weren’t quite as comfortable as the bouclé ones. I also expected them to be a bit larger, which was slightly disappointing. However, they still add a stylish touch to our space!

In the end, our entire dining room transformation cost under $500—a fraction of what buying a table from West Elm would have cost! Seeing my vision come to life, without breaking the bank, has been so rewarding.
