Are you hosting Christmas dinner? Do you like to decorate your table on a budget? Then this post is for you!
Every year my family hosts Christmas dinner. Which reminds me — I’ve got to work out what’s on the menu! We don’t always do Christmas traditional meats and fixings.
This year, I finished most of the Christmas shopping on Black Friday. Woo hoo!
Hubby and I do some kind of home improvement as a present to ourselves. We are at a point where we appreciate a nicer home more than stuff.
This year we’re renovating the kitchen by opening a wall and installing new countertops. This is our biggest gift-to-self. We’re starting in January so that it won’t interfere with hosting Christmas. I can’t wait! It’s been years that I’ve wanted to open up the kitchen.
Enough with me.
Let’s make a simple Christmas centerpiece.

The table runner comes first. I got a buffalo plaid runner from Hobby Lobby. Amazon has it. Some people use a scarf. I used my favorite white plates, napkins and gold napkin rings.

In this shot, I arranged faux and real greenery around a simple vase. Greenery “spruces up” a tablescape (pun intended!) and bolsters that festive feel. I’m glad our home has pine bushes. I for one like having year-round access to greenery.
I added candles for ambience. The right lighting makes a room feel warm and inviting. My younger daughter turns on the Christmas lights every night. She has autism so what she doesn’t say with words she says with actions. It’s clear she’s partial to twinkly lights — and Christmas music!
I put up a second tree in our dining room. It’s the first thing you see when you enter the house.
I decorated it with battery-operated, miniature homes that I got at the Dollar Tree and painted white.
Aren’t they cute?
In a last-minute decision, I added garland around the dining room window. It makes the room twinkly and romantic. I’d love to put it around our front door but I don’t want to pierce the brick.
My husband and I love a view. The view of the creek is a favorite feature of our home.
In the winter the foliage is gone and the view is unobstructed. We occasionally see deer pass through at dawn or dusk. We rarely see that in other seasons.
Have a joyous and wonderful Christmas with those you love. It’s spending time with these people that makes the season. And let’s not forget the One who loved us enough to come into the world.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Everything looks absolutely perfect! You have a lovely home. I wonder if removable command hooks might help you be able to hang your garland around your door.
Aw. Thank you very much, Jenn. I’m not sure if command hooks would work on bricks. I have to look into this. Thanks for your comment. Merry Christmas!
These are gorgeous, Jennabel! Such great style!
