How To Paint Wood Furniture

DIY painted MCM credenza

I love credenzas and I’ve been wanting to get one but I’m not willing to spend a lot. I saw this credenza on the curb when my sister and I were out yardsaling. I couldn’t believe it was free! It needed a fresh new coat of paint but I saw the potential.

I’m a fan of the midcentury-modern style and things made of solid wood. I saw a beautiful credenza from West Elm but it was expensive so I passed on that one.

Do you have old furniture in the garage that you no longer use? With a little creativity and time, you can transform old furniture to look brand new.

Do you need inspiration? Go to Pinterest and look for a specific style that speaks to you. For instance, do you like farmhouse, modern or rustic style furniture?

This is how it looked when I got it.

For this project, I used 5 paint colors.  I had leftover paints so I didn’t even have to buy that. Even better, right?

Paint colors I used:

Kilz chalk paint – white , top, side and bottom

Valspar – Repose Gray, top drawer

Behr – Creme Brulee , middle drawer

Vaspar – Escape Gray,  side cabinets

Behr – Platinum, last drawer

Krylon gold spray paint,  pulls

Directions

  1. Remove the pulls and sand it lightly using medium grit sandpaper.
  2.  Wipe the dust off with a damp cloth before painting it.
  3.  Paint. I added 2 coats of paint, letting the first fully dry before adding the second.
  4.  Spray paint the pulls. I used metallic gold and reattached them once     everything had dried. You are all done. Easy, peasy right?

I am pleased with how it turned out. Have you painted furniture before?

Takeaway: there are creative ways to turn curb fodder into nice additions to your home.
