Modern Coastal meets Mediterranean Bathroom Reveal

Boho Coastal Bathroom

In this post, I am going to share our boho coastal bathroom design meets Mediterranean. I love the wood elements, patterned and handmade tiles, black fixtures, and wicker accents in our small master’s bathroom design.

Hi, friends. I am super excited to share our finished master bathroom. After 9 years of waiting, we finally decided to tackle this room. The original tile was pink and gray and wallpaper outside the shower.

Two years ago, I decided to paint the pink tile with Rustoleum tub and tile paint. I was so happy with the result. We also installed peel-and-stick tile. We knew that we are going to remodel the bathroom in a few years.

Hubby decided to paint the shower tile a year later. Unfortunately, the paint started to peel and crack. We also had some mold issues due to the lack of ventilation. So it was time to remodel our small master’s bath.

When we renovated our main bathroom 9 years ago, we asked our contractor for an estimate to do our master’s bathroom. We were told that it would cost $10k to remodel our bathroom. I am glad that we held off and waited to remodel it. Back then, I did not know what my style is and I would have regretted my design choice just like our main bathroom.

Hubby wanted an Asian-inspired wet bathroom for our main bath. The tiles are installed from floor to ceiling. Because there is no lip in the shower area, the water splashed all over the floor.

After using the shower several times, we regretted doing the wet shower design. Now we are talking about adding a lip or ledge in the shower. We are waiting for our contractor to give us an estimate. We’ll probably do it next year.

In our master’s bathroom, we decided to remove the glass door and make the opening bigger to make the shower area appear larger. We learned a lesson from our main bathroom so we added a ledge.

We remove the header that separates the shower area and the outside shower. I decided that a wood beam would be a great divider and using wood would tie in the other wood elements in the room. Our contractor used oak wood to make a faux wood beam.

I love the handmade white tile we found from Lowes. We decided to do a vertical stack bond tile layout. I got the inspiration from Australian coastal homes. I love how it looks simple yet modern.

My favorite tile is this Mediterranean-inspired patterned tile. This is a big trend right now and I am obsessed with everything Mediterranean. We used it on the floor and the ceiling in the shower area. It looks great against the white tile and wood elements.

Hubby let me design the entire space. I already had a vanity I liked and all of a sudden he said he wants a floating sink. Ugh! I wasn’t happy with his idea but he said a floating sink would make the space look bigger. I had to please my client (hubby, lol) so I looked online to find a modern floating sink.

I did not like most of them so I decided to do a floating vanity instead. I ordered a butcher block from Lowes and got the sink and black vessel faucet from Amazon. If you are on the budget, I highly recommend getting fixtures from Amazon. I paid $100 for the sink and faucet and they are of great quality. We couldn’t be more pleased.

We were planning on adding a bottom shelf for storage but because of the pipe placement, it would’ve been so close to the floor. Hubby did not want to add another shelf so we left it open and used a wicker basket for storage.

The shower is another Amazon find and we couldn’t be happier. It’s made of heavy metal and not plastic stuff that you find in the big box stores. We paid $500 for our shower kit in our main bathroom and it’s already falling apart. I paid a fraction of the cost for this shower and the handle turns very smoothly. Hubby is so happy with it. He says now taking a shower is such a good experience because of the new shower ๐Ÿ™‚

I had to share a little story about our shower head. We used to have a regular shower head in the bathroom and the contractor did not change the height of the showerhead. I wanted a rainfall shower which means the arm extends longer than the regular showerhead. When Hubby got home from work he was so upset when he saw how low the showerhead was. It was about 3-4 inches above his head. It was way too low and he’s only 5’8″ tall.

The shower tile is all done which means if our contractor has to rip the tiles to make the showerhead higher it’s going to cost a lot of money. I looked on Amazon to see if there’s a shower arm that would give us more headroom. Lo and behold, I found one on Amazon and that fixed the problem. Phew.

One of my favorite design elements in the bathroom is this wicker pendant light. It really completes the coastal vibe I designed for this bathroom.

I added some blush pink accessories to contrast the white and wood color palette.

Modern Boho Bathroom

I hope you love this boho-coastal-inspired bathroom as much as I do. I believe that small spaces don’t have to be boring or bland. I like to describe it as “small but mighty.” Have a great day!
