Modern Farmhouse Living Room Christmas Decor

Blue and sage Christmas tree

Hello, everyone. I’ve been busy decorating for Christmas. It took me about two days of gathering all the decor and decorating the tree. I’m telling you: I take Christmas decorating seriously. πŸ™‚

All of us have been recovering from colds this past couple weeks. I think we need to move to a place where there’s no winter, lol. I don’t like the cold. Wouldn’t you know it: Hubby doesn’t like the hot.

My theme is a bit different from last year’s. I wanted to try another color scheme. I love the classic red and gold. Red is one of my favorite Christmas colors because it feels so festive. However, as much as I might love to use it every year, this was a year for something new.

My sister and I went to Hobby Lobby to get inspired. She showed me a sage green pillow. I loved it and so I incorporated it into this year’s decor.

I bought blue ornaments from Walmart last year just after the holiday when everything is 50% off. The day-after-Christmas crowds are crazy so it pays to get there bright and early. My sister always tags along. We both love the deals.

My sister got me plaid sage down pillows from Homegoods for my birthday. I got the complementary sage ornaments from Hobby Lobby.

It took me a couple of hours to decorate the tree. After the ornaments were on, I felt like it still needed color. Hubby, aka Mr. Contrast, suggested to add a warm color because all blue felt “too cold.” I added gold and rose gold ornaments to accommodate. He was pleased.

I bought this flocked tree from Walmart last year for only $79. Buy here. It’s 6.5′ tall and it fits our living room. The only downside is the snow stuff comes off and leaves a mess. I made the faux fur garland from Dollar Tree dusters.

Modern Farmhouse Christmas Mantel

I added this buffalo plaid sign from Ross over the mantel. The other decor is from Walmart. I wanted to incorporate some boho decor so I made pom-pom garland out of cotton balls. Yes, you read that right! I don’t think you’d notice unless you looked closely. πŸ™‚

Adding the garland was tricky. I didn’t want to drill holes in the stone mantel so I cut the garland in pieces and laid it on both sides.

I hope this post inspires your Christmas decor. When do you start decorating for Christmas? Do you change your decor every year?
