5 Practical Ways To Make Your Bedroom Warm In The Winter (That Actually Works)

Midcentury-Modern bedroom

This post is all about how to keep your bedroom warm during the cold winter months. I’ll be sharing tips and ways to keep your bedroom warm and cozy in the winter season.

Winter is my least favorite season. I always dread this time of the year because it gets so dark early and of course because it’s freezing. I hate being cold, especially because I grew up in a warm climate. Growing up, the coldest temperature we get is between December and January and that is mid to low 70 degrees. You read that right! That is considered cold for us.

I moved here to the US back in 2008. It was about 70 degrees and I told my husband I was freezing. LOL! I’d never experienced being so cold in my life until I moved to America.

Our house was built in 1956 and it’s made of bricks. Back then, they did not insulate the house well. When we remodeled our bathroom last year, we found out that there was no insulation between the drywall and the cinder block. Super weird, right? No wonder our house is freezing during the winter.

Our bedroom is the coldest room in the house. I still remember when hubby wore gloves and a hat to keep himself warm, LOL. And yes, we set our thermostat between 70-72 degrees Fahrenheit in the cold months.

We tried to solve the issue by sealing all of our windows to prevent drafts but that did not help very much. We cleared the vents and even paid 5k to insulate our attic but our bedroom was still freezing. So today, I am sharing what finally works to keep our bedroom warm and toasty in the winter.

Use a space heater

This is the most practical and obvious tip because it immediately warmed up our bedroom. We bought ours from Amazon and it works great. I love that you can set it up and just turn it on every night. We set ours at 68 or 69 degrees and it automatically shuts off once that temperature is reached.

Use flannel sheets

Using flannel sheets to me is a game changer. We used to have Egyptian cotton sheets which work perfectly in the warm summer months. However, during the winter the sheets get so cold. I hate laying down on a cold bed. I started using flannel sheets and now our bed feels way better. I did not realize how warm flannel sheets can be. I highly recommend getting one for your bedroom.

Fleece blankets for your bed

Fleece blankets are my favorite blankets in the winter. We even use it in the living room because it is so warm and soft. This is a must-have for the living room and bedroom. I love that this comes in every color and style. I stick with neutrals to match all of our bed covers.

Use Comforters

I’m sure almost all people use comforters for their bedrooms in the winter. We, on the other hand, do not use one. Comforters make me hot and sweaty which keeps me up all night. We use a quilt cover and fleece blanket in the winter and it works great for us.

Use an area rug under your bed

If you have hardwood floors, tiles, concrete, or LVT, then I’d recommend adding an area rug to your bedroom. We have hardwood floors and it gets so cold in the winter that we need to wear socks all the time. Unless you have heated floors, an area rug makes a difference to keep your feet warm in the winter. There’s nothing worse than waking up on a cold morning and placing your feet on a cold floor.

Don’t forget to wear a pair of flannel or fleece pajamas. This is a no-brainer but I’m surprised how many people still wear short sleeves shirts in winter. Hubby is one of them and complains that he’s cold, LOL. I could not survive wearing short sleeves in the winter. I’d be too uncomfortable.
