Are you looking for a simple and easy DIY woven light fixture? Do you like boho light fixtures but are on a tight budget? Today, I will share with you how I turned a rattan basket into a pendant light. It’s a super easy and inexpensive project you can try at home.
I’ve been eyeing the IKEA bamboo pendant light for a while. IKEA doesn’t have it in stock but I found a similar light on Amazon. We replaced our boob light fixture in the bedroom with the pendant light. I love it so much. It transformed our bathroom from boring to a coastal bedroom.

A light fixture can make a dramatic impact on any space. But they are not very cheap. The price starts from $70-$500, depending on the style you choose.
I was on a mission to change the light fixtures in all of our bedrooms. I want the house to have a boho and coastal vibe on a budget. We replaced all our light fixtures when we moved in about 10 years ago. The light fixtures were cheap and boring.
I asked Hubby if he would be okay if we replace the light fixture and he gave me a thumbs-up ๐ I found this rattan basket at Ross and love the design and style. It reminded me of an Australian-style basket.
I love Australian coastal-style homes. Their homes are very bright and airy with wood accents and textures. And lots of plants and greenery. Their homes feel like you’re on a vacation every single day. And I want our home to feel just like that.
I bought the basket and figured out if I can cut the middle to put the wire and bulb in.
You’ll need:
Directions:
Take the light fixture kit and measure how big you have to cut the hole.
Mark the circle using a market. Make sure the hole is just wide enough for the light bulb socket but a tad smaller than the shade ring (this is included in the light kit).
Start cutting the bamboo or wire using a wirecutter or scissors.
Insert the light fixture kit and install your new light pendant.
We hired a handyman to install the light fixture because we are not electricians. If you don’t have any experience dealing with wires or electricity then I highly recommend hiring a professional to do this. He cut the wire to make it shorter because I did not want the light to hang too low.
Add the bulb and enjoy your new light fixture!
Unfortunately, the basket I used has wire in the middle so it took a lot of effort to cut the wire.
