Front Porch Refresh

Modern Boho Front Porch

Do you need ideas to decorate your front porch for summer? In this post, I will show you how I gave our front porch a makeover by updating the furniture, adding plants and decor.

The front porch is very important because it’s the first thing that guests see entering the house. They give the guest a first impression of what your house would look like inside. I like to add my personal style or personality to my front porch.

I used lots of white and wood accents for a boho coastal look. Wicker is my favorite way to add texture to any space in my house. I am obsessed with neutrals because it gives me a sense of serenity and calm.

How To Give Your Front Porch A Refresh?

To give your front porch a refresh, follow these steps:

Clean and Declutter

Start by cleaning the porch thoroughly. Sweep away dirt, remove cobwebs, and wash the floor. Clear out any unnecessary items, like old furniture or decorations that no longer serve a purpose. Decluttering will create a clean canvas for your refresh.

Assess and Repair

Inspect the porch for any signs of damage or wear. Fix loose boards, replace broken tiles, or repair any structural issues. Ensure that the porch is in good condition before moving forward with the refresh.

Add a Fresh Coat of Paint

Painting the porch can make a significant difference. Choose a color that complements your home’s exterior and enhances the overall curb appeal. Apply a fresh coat of paint to the floor, railings, and any other surfaces that require attention. Consider using porch-specific paint for durability.

Upgrade Lighting

Good lighting adds warmth and safety to your front porch. Install new fixtures or update the existing ones. Choose lighting that matches your desired style, whether it’s modern, traditional, or rustic. Opt for energy-efficient bulbs to save on electricity costs.

Consider Furniture and Decor

Select furniture that fits the porch’s size and style. Add a comfortable seating area with chairs or a bench, complemented by weather-resistant cushions. Incorporate outdoor-friendly accessories such as rugs, throw pillows, and potted plants to create a welcoming atmosphere.

Focus on Landscaping

Enhance the porch’s aesthetics with landscaping elements. Place potted plants or hanging baskets on or around the porch. Consider adding flower beds or planters with colorful flowers to create a vibrant look. Maintain the surrounding garden or lawn to ensure a cohesive appearance.

Personalize with Details

Add personal touches to make your porch unique. Hang a decorative wreath on the door, display a personalized doormat, or incorporate artwork or signage that reflects your personality and style. These small details can make a big difference in the overall ambiance.

Maintain Regularly

Once you’ve completed the refresh, make sure to maintain the porch regularly. Clean it periodically, remove any debris or leaves, and touch up the paint if necessary. Proper maintenance will keep your front porch looking fresh and inviting for a long time.

We plan to replace the column with a cedar post. I really dislike the metal ornate column because it makes the house look dated. I’m so looking forward to getting a new post because I think it’s going to change the look of our front porch.

I filled the hanging basket with faux flowers from Dollar Tree. I am currently obsessed with white and saw these cute white flowers. I cut the stems off using a wire cutter and use floral foam to stick the stems in and hold them in place.

Although I would rather have real plants on my front porch, I don’t like having to buy plants every year. In the end, this will save me money and it’s also maintenance-free because I don’t need to water them 🙂

I bought the hanging planter from Walmart. I really love the modern boho look.

I also plan to paint or stain our front door and maybe match it with the cedar post. We’ll see because stripping paint is so much work 🙂 The door is original to the house and I do like the midcentury-modern look. But I much prefer the modern style so I want to update it.

I want to change the hardware too but I’m not sure how easy it is to change the doorknob. I replaced all the doorknobs in our house about a month ago. The hardest part is making sure the doorknob lines up correctly so it’ll lock. It was a lot of work but it’s finally done and I did it all by myself 🙂

I hope this post inspired you to decorate or refresh your front porch this summer.
