Do you want to decorate your small living room without breaking the bank? In this post, I will share five tips on how to give your living room a refresh on the cheap.
Decorating a small living room on a budget can be challenging, but it’s certainly possible with some creativity and resourcefulness. Here are some tips to help you decorate your small living room without breaking the bank.
Choose a neutral color scheme
Neutral colors like beige, white, gray, and cream can make a small space appear larger and brighter. Use these colors as a backdrop and add pops of color through decorative accents like pillows, curtains, and wall art. That is why we choose a neutral colored-sectional and painted our walls creamy white.
It’s like a blank canvas. I can add any colors or patterns I like because a neutral color goes with everything. If you are planning on painting your home, I highly recommend choosing neutral color paint.
Optimize your furniture layout
Arrange your furniture in a way that maximizes your space. Use multi-functional furniture like a storage ottoman or a sofa bed to save on space and money. This is a great choice for families with small children to store toys to keep them out of sight.
If you like to save space but have more seating, then a sectional might be a better option for you. We had a couch before and decided to buy a new sectional. We prefer the sectional because it can fit more people comfortably.
DIY decor
Create your own decor by repurposing old items or making new ones. Paint an old bookshelf or create a gallery wall of your favorite family photos. DIY decor is a cost-effective way to add personality and charm to your living room.
This is my favorite way of decorating our home on a budget. I enjoy painting furniture. I just recently taught myself to use power tools. Check out my latest DIY project here.
Add greenery
Plants are an affordable way to add life and color to your living room. Choose low-maintenance plants like succulents or spider plants that can thrive in any lighting condition.
I have a plant addiction, lol. I love to add plants throughout our home. My favorite indoor plants are fig tree, pilea, snack plant, monstera, and Ficus Audrey.
Shop second-hand
Shop at thrift stores, garage sales, or online marketplaces to find affordable furniture and decor. You may even find unique pieces that add character to your living room.
My absolute favorite place to shop for home decor is the Thrift store. I recently found some really good home decor from our local Goodwill. I find lots of home decor from Target at the Thrift store.
